Ayahuasca Retreats in Mexico and the World

The first time I heard about Ayahuasca was years ago. I was thinking it was some powerful drug from the Jungle. Back then, you could hear about Ayahuasca ceremonies in Peru, Mexico, and maybe some other wild parts of South America.

These days you can apply for any session in Germany and I heard you can do an Ayahuasca ceremony in Warsaw, the capital of Poland.

Even though you can have probably joined the best Ayahuasca ceremonies organized literally anywhere, it is losing its spirit when it is conducted in the city, don’t you think?

Here at The Switch, we can refer you to some interesting places with advanced Shamans where an Ayahuasca experience is conducted in a ‘classic’ way in the jungle.

What is Ayahuasca

It is one of the very best known medicines. It is a drink with a mix of boiled plants from the Amazon Jungle that has a psychedelic affects. Psychedelic is a word taken from ancient Greek, which means mind revealing.

Ayahuasca is famous because of its main compound (extracted from boiled plants), called DMT (dimethyltryptamine). DMT occurs in the human body naturally and everywhere in nature. Ayahuasca, DMT, and other plants have been used by South American Indians for thousands of years. They perform Ayahuasca healing through subconscious mind revealing processes. Increasing DMT’s natural concentration to its higher level in the body may also bring other strong positive effects.

How Ayahuasca works

Everyone experiences the sessions of Ayahuasca rituals very differently, although there are some similarities. It is not like we choose our experience from a menu though (I wish we would).

In reality, sometimes an Ayahuasca trip takes you to a mild voyage through symbols, suggestions, a little healings on the mental level and different visions – so it’s all happening within you, in your mind.

Sometimes it is little harsher and the healing processes come out heavily, especially if you come with addictions, strong problems, heavy egos (that you might not be aware of).

Some people have strong experiences, like out of body experiences (OBE), seeing other dimensions (how this matrix reality really functions) or talking to entities from other dimensions (late family members, for example).

These strong experiences are known as the best Ayahuasca retreats.

How Retreats Work – Ayahuasca in Mexico, Riviera Maya

Every once in a while, some of my friends invite experienced Shaman to come to the Cancun Area (Riviera Maya in Mexico – Caribbean).

Here around Cancun and Tulum, we have jungles, peaceful areas, retreat centers and places for conducting ceremonies in nature. Some of those places are very natural and simple, others are luxurious. But, don’t get too excited, the best Ayahuasca places I know are simple and natural. The process is mostly about the people who conduct it, not the facilities.

Gathering at night, a Shaman introduces the practice for an hour or two, to a group of few or 12 people (sometimes up to 30, I heard). Then after some short preparation, everybody in the group drinks a little cup of this Ayahuasca mixture. It is dark like coffee and taste very similar, but with a very bitter edge.

It starts to work after 20-30 minutes. Some people go through the purge (you start to vomit). However that sounds, the process itself is good and cleansing. So you should go with that process; do not block it. I didn’t understand that when I did my first Ayahuasca session. Vomiting is like a dis-ease process and is a fast cleaner.

Then people just sit and focus on their experiences.
